Physical and chemical properties
The modified high temperature coal tar pitch is a black solid consist of fused ring aromatic hydrocarbons and macromolecular resins, which contains oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur heterocyclic compounds and a small amount of polymer carbon material.it can be solidified into a brittle solid in shell-like fracture at a certain temperature (1-5cm) without thermal effect. It is brittle black lumps under room-temperature and can be converted into liquid when heating, with characteristics of shiny, toxic and in a slight odor. Its flash point is 204.4°C and boiling point is no higher than 470°C . Melting point around 100-150°C and 1.25-1.35g/cm3 density.
It is obtained by distilling soft pitch in modifier under certain pressure and temperature after certain time of heating.
It can be used as binder pitch for the production of high-power and ultra high-power graphite electrodes( mainly used in steel mills and other metal smelting ), aluminum with anode paste and prebaked anode adhesives ( mainly for the aluminum plant ), high-pure carbon black and carbon black oil( mainly for rubber tire factory ).
